New WBT Design: A Better Learning Experience Built from Customer Feedback

Anyone who trains employees on a daily basis knows that a good online training course isn’t just about having a modern design. It must convey knowledge in an understandable way, emphasize practical application, and support long-term learning success. That’s exactly why we’ve fundamentally revamped the design of our web-based training (WBT) courses.

Our starting point wasn’t short-term trends, but rather our customers’ wishes. Feedback from our customer survey, the customer forum, personal conversations, and a market analysis formed the basis for a development process that took many months. After numerous design drafts, new templates, technical enhancements, and intensive usability tests, the result can now be experienced in wingsacademy’s first online training courses.

Customer Wishes Became Our Development Plan

What do employees want from a modern online training course? The answers were surprisingly clear: audio should play faster, content should be more concise, and videos and animations should make learning more engaging.

These very requests were the focus throughout the entire development process. Behind the new WBT design lie many months of intensive work - from initial concepts to new templates and technical enhancements, right through to numerous rounds of optimization. Only when the design, usability, and learning experience met our standards did the rollout begin in the first web-based training courses.

Less text. More possibilities. Same commitment.

Our commitment remains unchanged: legally compliant and practical online training for the aviation industry. What’s new is the learning experience.

With the new WBT design, employees benefit from features such as customizable audio playback speed, more concisely presented content, more videos and animations, and small micro-interactions that provide immediate feedback and make learning more engaging. In addition, selected training courses now include new features such as a glossary.

Technically, the new design continues to be based on Articulate 360, one of the world’s leading development platforms for web-based training. We have specifically expanded its capabilities and adapted them to the requirements of modern aviation training.

AI supports learning where it improves learning outcomes

Artificial intelligence is also part of the new WBT design - but not as an end in itself.

We use AI-generated avatars, AI-assisted audio, and other intelligent features specifically where they make content easier to understand and support learning. Of course, technical responsibility remains in the hands of our experts in aviation, training, and e-learning. After all, legal compliance, practical relevance, and quality will continue to form the foundation of every single WBT.

Greater usability. Greater accessibility. Greater learning success.

A modern learning experience must make it easier for as many people as possible to access knowledge. That is why usability and accessibility played a central role throughout the entire development process.

This benefits not only our occupational safety and health training courses in accordance with DGUV requirements. Many other online training courses have also been optimized in terms of navigation, readability, and user guidance. In the new Human Factors training course for ground handling services, for example, we have deliberately opted for simpler language. The content remains technically rigorous but is now more accessible to employees whose native language is neither German nor English.

Discover the New WBT Design

The new WBT design is already being used in the first online training courses from wingsacademy - including theEASA Basic Training, Human Factors for Ground Handling Services, Aviation Security 11.2.8.2 (Cybersecurity Awareness), the AI Act, and the first occupational health and safety training sessions. Additional web-based training courses will follow step by step.

Curious? Then take a look at our YouTube channel, where we showcase the new WBT design. Or explore the first training courses directly in our online shop. We’d also be happy to provide you with a personal trial account and show you what modern e-learning for the aviation industry looks like today.
