Hands-on training in virtual environments will soon expand the wingsacademy’s training portfolio for the aviation sector. As early as May, a cooperation agreement was signed with Berlin-based company Draxon. Draxon specializes in standardized Virtual Reality (VR) training based on IATA and EASA regulations.
Both companies view this newly announced partnership as an ideal combination of their respective expertise in training, aviation, and IT. While wingsacademy contributes its know-how in delivering primarily theoretical content via web-based training (WBT), Draxon adds value with a range of VR modules for staff involved in aircraft ground handling.
Blending Online and VR Training: Theory Meets Practice Seamlessly
Going forward, wingsacademy and Draxon aim to offer harmonized theoretical and VR training solutions tailored to the aviation industry. The partnership’s shared goal: to train aviation employees even more consistently, realistically, and according to actual needs than ever before. Critical safety procedures are expected to be better internalized and practiced repeatedly — anytime and as a flexible supplement to existing training programs.
Draxon’s VR training content is just as flexible and user-friendly as wingsacademy’s online training solutions: accessible 24/7, online, and with full progress tracking for each training unit completed. The initial focus of the collaboration will be on ground handling services — a field with particularly high demand. In this segment, both wingsacademy and Draxon are already preferred training providers at numerous airports across Germany and abroad.
Tackling the Skilled Labor Shortage: A Double Impact
Faster onboarding, higher training quality, and especially reduced costs for repairs or replacements after damage to equipment or aircraft are just a few of the obvious initial benefits of joint training with both partners. By combining the web-based trainings (WBT) from wingsacademy with the VR-based modules from Draxon, trainer capacity is also preserved — a key advantage for the future.
Because staff shortages are already affecting all areas of the industry and will worsen over the coming years. Soon, not only trainers but also examiners will be retiring. If companies then lack personnel to deliver comprehensive training amid increasingly complex workflows and rising demands, failure rates will increase, leading to unnecessary additional costs. Those who prepare ahead will be better positioned to meet these challenges.
From Aviation – For Aviation: Stuttgart Airport Ground Handling Sparked the Initiative
The challenges of the future require bold action today. New formats, innovative methods, and integrated solutions are needed more than ever. Alina Henne, CIP Digitalization & Innovation at Stuttgart Airport Ground Handling (SAG), not only recognized this need — she acted on it.
“We realized that combining wingsacademy’s strong theoretical training with Draxon’s hands-on VR practice would prepare our employees perfectly for safety-critical tasks on the ramp,” says Henne. “That’s why we brought the two companies together. And of course, we’re especially excited to see the results of this partnership unfold.”
